Local officials from Yei River County’s government held a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the county to review achievements and progress made in Yei River County.
The meeting was attended by senior officials who play vital and significant roles in developing the local community. The UNHCR delegation was led by Mr. Erasmus Usongo, Head of the UNHCR Office in Yei, who explained that the purpose of the visit was to engage positively with traditional government stakeholders and gain valuable insights into the various projects implemented by UNHCR across Yei River County.
The meeting served as an important mechanism for providing feedback to the UNHCR, enabling them to assess the impact of their initiatives and identify areas requiring further attention and improvement.
Commissioner Emmanuel Taban Seme warmly welcomed the UNHCR team and expressed his deep gratitude for their ongoing support, highlighting the positive impact this assistance has had on the county’s development trajectory.
He referred to the county’s five-year strategic plan, which emphasizes a commitment to sustainable development across various sectors.
Commissioner Taban urged UNHCR to expand its support, particularly in critical areas that directly affect the well-being of Yei River County residents.
He highlighted key services, including enhancing education, improving healthcare services, developing the agricultural sector, improving infrastructure, building roads, and ensuring access to clean water.
He emphasized that, although farmer training is highly valuable, there is a pressing need for agricultural mechanization.
He believes that investment in this technology could significantly enhance agricultural productivity and contribute to achieving food security in the county.
