Juba: Al-Naeim Mubarak Kuol
Michael Makuei Lueth, South Sudan’s Minister of Information, announced on Wednesday that his ministry has played a crucial role in assisting the South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) in collecting 47 billion South Sudanese pounds monthly. This is achieved through taxes and fees imposed on entities under its jurisdiction, such as telecommunications companies.
Speaking at the 8th Governors’ Forum in Juba, Makuei acknowledged that these substantial collections were made possible thanks to the SSRA’s digital payment system.Makuei stated, “The Government of South Sudan currently collects at least 47 billion South Sudanese pounds monthly thanks to the telecom sector and the digitization of the Revenue Authority.”
The Minister of Information emphasized that his ministry monitors the collected sums and identifies the relevant institutions, recognizing that these funds are generated through the ministry’s efforts. However, he clarified that his ministry only monitors the figures, while the National Revenue Authority is responsible for collecting the funds.
