The President Receives a Comprehensive Briefing on the Progress of the RJMEC

President Salva Kiir received a comprehensive briefing from Ambassador Major General Charles Tai Gituai, Chair of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC), on the progress of implementing the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

The discussions focused on key achievements of the ongoing revitalized agreement and preparations for the upcoming elections scheduled for December 2026.
Ambassador Gituai highlighted significant progress in drafting the constitution and unifying the armed forces as critical components of the peace agreement.
President Kiir reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the smooth and timely implementation of the extended agreement, emphasizing that resources are available to support these efforts.
Ambassador Gituai also assured that the security situation in the country remains stable, creating a conducive environment for the upcoming general elections.
The Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Martin Lomuro, who attended the meeting, stressed the importance of regional and international support for South Sudan’s peace process. He affirmed that the joint commission, regional bodies, and international partners are ready to assist the country’s efforts toward stability and good governance.
Minister Lomuro added that the government is focusing on urgent issues to facilitate the start of a new transitional period. He praised the constructive relationship with RJMEC and its efforts to ensure the success of the transitional period extension, allowing more time for necessary reforms and election preparations.
