Major General Lul Ruai issued a statement directed at the people of South Sudan, both in Juba and abroad, addressing the fear caused by a rumor spread via social media.
The statement reads:”Honorable citizens of our nation, social media users have circulated rumors claiming that General Marshal Stephen has been removed from his position and detained in an undisclosed location.
There are also rumors suggesting that the SPLA is present in the Newside area preparing for war.
These rumors have caused panic and fear among citizens.This information is entirely baseless.
General Marshal Stephen is currently at home and in good health; he has not been detained. Those spreading such rumors do not wish to see stability in South Sudan.
We assure the people of South Sudan that the situation is secure.”
