In an effort to boost current financial support, Dr. Marial Dongrin Ater, Minister of Finance and Planning, met with a team from the African Development Bank led by Mr. Jonathon Nzayikorera, Executive Director for East Africa.
The meeting focused on the financial assistance provided by the African Development Bank to South Sudan through various programs aimed at developing the country’s infrastructure, providing humanitarian aid, financing agricultural projects, connecting regional roads, and supplying electricity, funded in collaboration with other development partners.
Minister Dongrin expressed his appreciation for the African Development Bank’s support in various economic sectors of the country and pledged to continue governmental cooperation with the regional bank to attract more development programs.

Ater also highlighted the impact of multiple shocks facing the country, including the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has led to the shutdown of oil and the influx of refugees and returnees, as well as rapid changes in climate conditions causing floods and droughts across the country.
Minister Marial outlined key strategies aimed at managing the country’s current limited resources to achieve effective economic performance. These include reducing capital expenditure, aligning exchange rates, settling salary arrears, and allocating resources to priority areas.
He urged the African Development Bank to support the review and implementation of the revised national development strategy to achieve effective economic performance.
For his part, the visiting Executive Director of the African Development Bank thanked the Government of South Sudan for prioritizing peace efforts, describing it as a necessary prerequisite for the functioning of international institutions such as the African Development Bank and other private sector entities that promote economic development.
