President Salva Kiir Mayardit received the Ambassador of Algeria to Ethiopia and the African Union, Salma Melika Haddadi, who paid a courtesy visit to discuss various matters.
Ambassador Haddadi is visiting the country in an effort to seek the President’s support ahead of the African Union Commission elections scheduled for February 2025.
President Kiir welcomed Ambassador Haddadi at the Presidential Palace and wished her success in her pursuit of the prominent position within the African Union Commission.
The Algerian diplomat praised President Kiir’s advice, stating that it aligns perfectly with the spirit of brotherly relations between Algeria and South Sudan within the framework of a shared vision for cooperation, as she expressed.
The Ambassador emphasized the potential benefits of the momentum derived from the President’s experiences, stating that such a step would not only enhance bilateral relations but also contribute significantly to her candidacy with the new developments within South Sudan’s vision for African integration.
She added, “I believe this would contribute not only to strengthening the relationship between the two countries but also, for me as a candidate, in integrating South Sudan’s perspective as a member of the African Union.” Foreign Minister Ramadan Mohamed Jock confirmed South Sudan’s commitment to the full integration of the African continent and pledged support for this leadership in revitalizing unity and cooperation within the African Union
