Upper Nile Government Gives Aid Looters 24 Hours to Return Items, Warns of Strict Legal Action

Upper Nile – Al Wadi Newspaper

The Government of Upper Nile State has issued a strongly worded official warning to individuals who unlawfully seized humanitarian food and non-food items that were transported from Ethiopia to Nasir, intended to support the most vulnerable members of the community.

Authorities stressed that the looting of these supplies constitutes a serious violation, urging all those involved to voluntarily return the stolen items within 24 hours from the time the warning was issued, and cautioning that decisive legal action will be taken against anyone who fails to comply.

Officials indicated that credible information suggests some of the individuals involved are believed to be affiliated with “IO” forces in the Jingmir area, emphasizing that the matter is being handled with the utmost seriousness and that further measures will be taken if there is no immediate compliance.

The authorities also accused “IO” forces of being behind repeated incidents of looting targeting civilian property in recent times, describing such actions as unacceptable and warning that they will no longer be tolerated.

This warning comes as part of ongoing government efforts to safeguard humanitarian aid and ensure it reaches those in need without obstruction.
