The Government of Sudan has announced the extension of the opening of the Adré border crossing with the Republic of Chad to allow the flow of humanitarian assistance delivered by international aid organizations, effective from January 1 until March 31, 2026.
In a press statement issued today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the decision reaffirms the Sudanese government’s commitment to ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need across the country. It also reflects goodwill aimed at facilitating humanitarian work and strengthening coordination with relief organizations operating in Sudan, in accordance with national regulations and laws and in line with the principles of international humanitarian law.
The statement explained that the decision to extend the opening of the crossing comes amid deteriorating humanitarian conditions following violations and atrocities committed by the rebel militia in several areas, including El Fasher, Babanusa, and Heglig, which resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians.
The Sudanese government expressed its condolences to the victims and called on brotherly and friendly countries, as well as humanitarian organizations, to expedite the provision of support and necessary assistance to affected citizens. It also urged them to take advantage of the extended opening of the Adré crossing to scale up humanitarian efforts and meet urgent needs in the affected areas, in coordination with the relevant state authorities.
The decision is part of the government’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of citizens and strengthen the humanitarian response under the current circumstances.
