South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority Celebrates International Air Traffic Controllers Day and Honors Outstanding Staff

Juba – Al-Wadi Newspaper
The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) organized a celebration on Monday to mark International Air Traffic Controllers Day. The event took place at the Authority’s headquarters in the capital, Juba, under the theme: “You may not see us, but you can be sure we’re watching over you.”
The event was attended by a wide range of SSCAA staff from various departments, alongside representatives from aviation and humanitarian organizations such as Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the Air Force, and major oil companies including Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC), DAR Petroleum Operating Company (DPOC), and Sudd Petroleum Operating Company (SPOC).
Mr. Habib Dafalla Awongo, Director of Corporate Affairs, represented SSCAA’s Director General, Mr. John Woja Elinana. Also in attendance were Mr. Bol Ring, Acting Air Traffic Management Manager, as well as several directors and department heads—all of whom emphasized the vital role air traffic controllers play in maintaining the safety of civil aviation in the country.
The event was skillfully moderated by Mr. Paul Bith, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Communications at SSCAA. The program included motivational speeches, documentary presentations, and a special segment to honor outstanding air traffic controllers. Certificates of appreciation were also presented to individuals who supported and contributed to the development of the department.
In closing remarks, SSCAA officials reaffirmed their commitment to continued investment in modern surveillance systems, advanced training programs, and improved working conditions to ensure effective and safe performance in this critical sector.
This international day serves as an opportunity to recognize the efforts of the “invisible heroes” who work tirelessly behind the scenes to manage air traffic and ensure the safe passage of millions of passengers through the skies.
Happy Air Traffic Controllers Day! You are the first line of defense in aviation safety.
