The National Constitutional Review Commission (NCRC), led by Dr. Riang Yer Zuor, on Friday delivered a comprehensive briefing to the Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, and his cabinet on the progress of ongoing civic education and public consultation activities as part of the permanent constitution-making process.
The meeting took place at the State Government Secretariat in Juba, where the governor welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed his administration’s full commitment to cooperating with the Commission to implement its activities in the state. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that citizens’ voices are heard so that the forthcoming constitution truly reflects the will of the people.
Dr. Riang noted that NCRC’s civic education teams have already been deployed to Eastern Equatoria, Western Bahr el Ghazal, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, and Lakes States, adding that Central Equatoria will be the next destination in the national outreach campaign. He stressed the need for early coordination with state authorities to ensure the necessary security and logistical arrangements are in place before activities begin.
“We briefed the Governor and his Cabinet on key coordination issues, particularly security and logistics, which are critical to facilitating the work of our teams on the ground,” Dr. Riang explained.
For his part, the State Minister of Information and Communication, Nyarsuk Patrick, reiterated the state government’s readiness to support the Commission’s work across all six counties of the state, including Wonduruba Administrative Payam. He also underscored the importance of incorporating the views of displaced persons and refugees from Central Equatoria living in neighboring countries into the public consultation process.
The meeting concluded with both sides affirming a shared commitment to supporting an inclusive, participatory, and citizen-driven constitutional process aimed at strengthening peace and democracy in the country.
