The Bank of South Sudan, in collaboration with the National Chamber of Commerce and several relevant stakeholders, held a key consultative meeting on Thursday, September 26, 2025. The meeting focused on exploring ways to promote the adoption of digital payment systems and expand their use within the national financial sector.
In his address to the attendees, Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Dr. Addis Ababa Othow, emphasized the importance of digital transformation in improving the efficiency of the financial system. He stated, “Digital payment systems contribute to faster transactions, improved cash flows, and enhanced financial inclusion — all of which positively impact the national economy.”


For his part, Minister Ladu Lukak, Chairman of the National Chamber of Commerce, reaffirmed his full support for the transition towards digital payments. He announced plans to hold direct meetings with traders across the country to encourage the adoption of modern digital payment methods in commercial transactions.
In the same context, the CEO of the Bankers Association, Madam Betty Angasi, called for the launch of broad public awareness campaigns to educate communities about the importance of digital banking services. She noted, “As commercial banks, we believe in the importance of working with all financial partners to spread the culture of digital payment. Every shop in the market must be part of this digital transformation to ease transactions and reduce reliance on cash.”
The meeting was attended by First Deputy Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Hon. Samuel Yanga, along with several senior officials from the financial sector, representatives of banking and commercial institutions, and other concerned parties.
This meeting represents an important step in the ongoing efforts to develop the financial infrastructure and advance the digital economy in South Sudan.
