South Sudan’s Minister of Health Discusses Health Sector Financing Strategies with IGAD Team

Yesterday morning, the Minister of Health of the Republic of South Sudan, Sarah Cleto Rial, held a meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters in Juba with the health team from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), headed by Dr. Mohamed Elduma, and attended by senior officials from the A2DSRH Program.

The discussions focused on ways to develop health sector financing strategies and strengthen healthcare systems in IGAD member states. During the meeting, the IGAD delegation reviewed the latest updates on ongoing health programs and initiatives, including the A2DSRH Program, reaffirming their continued efforts to support health systems in the region.

Minister Cleto stressed the government’s strong commitment to prioritizing the health sector, and urged IGAD to work towards achieving practical outcomes that contribute to building stronger, more resilient, and sustainable health systems, while improving the quality of services delivered to citizens.

For his part, Dr. Elduma emphasized the importance of political support, national ownership, and cross-sectoral cooperation in enhancing domestic health resource mobilization, in line with the World Health Organization’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals.
