China Supports Girls’ Education in South Sudan by Donating 1,000 Textbooks and School Supplies

Wau – Al-Wadi Newspaper

In a humanitarian initiative that reflects the spirit of international cooperation, peacekeepers from China, serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), have provided vital educational support to Kosti Girls’ School in the city of Wau. The donation included nearly 1,000 textbooks, along with stationery supplies and sports equipment for the students.

Elizabeth Adut, a student at the school and one of the beneficiaries of the initiative, said:
“We always wanted to learn, but it was difficult when we didn’t have textbooks. Now, we no longer have to spend hours copying lessons from the blackboard or share one book among ten students.”

This initiative aims to support the educational process in conflict-affected areas and to strengthen the trust of local communities in peacekeeping efforts.

Lieutenant Colonel Huang Tao, Commander of the Chinese engineering unit within UNMISS in Wau, emphasized that education is the cornerstone of any sustainable peace. He added:
“We saw it as our duty to support these eager and bright students, as part of our mission to serve peace.”

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by UN peacekeepers to build trust and promote community stability—particularly in regions suffering from inadequate educational infrastructure.
