Grandmother Offers Live Chickens as School Fees for Granddaughter in Homa Bay in Kenya

Homa Bay – News Agencies

In a moving scene that reflects profound sacrifice and unwavering belief in education, an elderly woman touched the hearts of teachers and students at Adiedo Mixed Secondary School in Homa Bay County, Kenya, when she arrived at the school carrying six live chickens to pay her granddaughter’s school fees after the girl had been sent home due to non-payment.

Refusing to let her granddaughter’s future slip away despite difficult financial circumstances, the grandmother took an extraordinary step by offering the only means of payment she had—her chickens. The gesture was met with heartfelt appreciation and emotional reactions across the school community.
In what many considered a symbolic and powerful moment, one of the chickens laid an egg upon arrival at the school—a scene that teachers described as a “true embodiment of sacrifice and a silent message of determination and generosity.”

Teachers expressed deep respect and admiration for the grandmother’s initiative, praising her courage and unwavering commitment to her granddaughter’s education in the face of economic hardship.
“This incident reminds us all of the true purpose of our mission in education,” said one of the teachers. “This grandmother’s love and sacrifice should be a source of inspiration to every member of our community.”
