Gieth Kon Mathiang officially assumed his role as the new Director General of the National Communication Authority (NCA) on Tuesday, affirming his commitment to advancing the Authority and enhancing its performance in the communications and information technology sector.

During the handover ceremony, which was attended by several senior officials, Mathiang expressed his gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for the trust placed in him, noting that his previous experience as a board member of the NCA gave him a comprehensive understanding of the Authority’s operations and the challenges facing the telecommunications sector in the country.
“Through my work on the Board, I have become well-acquainted with the inner workings of the Authority. I am confident that, with the support of the team, I will be able to implement the Authority’s vision and build on the achievements of my predecessor,” Mathiang said.
For his part, the Minister of Information, Communication, Telecommunications, and Postal Services, Michael Makuei Lueth, urged the new Director General to work in a spirit of teamwork and strengthen coordination with various stakeholders to achieve the Authority’s objectives. He emphasized the key role the NCA plays in regulating the sector and ensuring digital stability.

The ceremony was attended by Minister Michael Makuei, his deputy Gen. David Yau Yau, and Professor John Akec, Chairperson of the NCA Board of Directors.
Mathiang’s appointment is expected to mark a significant shift in the Authority’s performance, particularly amid the challenges facing the telecommunications sector and the urgent need to modernize infrastructure and strengthen the regulatory framework in line with regional and global developments.
