The Vatican ambassador to South Sudan, archbishop Seamus Horgan, had paid visits to Unity State to celebrate one hundred years since the arrival of Christianity in the unity catholic church there.
The centenary celebration in Unity State is a significant event for the local community and the Catholic Church in South Sudan. This milestone marks an important moment in the history of Christianity in the region, acknowledging its growth and influence over the past century. Archbishop Horgan’s visit and his meetings with state officials demonstrate a robust partnership between religious institutions and local government, particularly in promoting peace and development. Governor Bim’s commitment to supporting faith-based initiatives further emphasizes the important role that religious organizations play in building communities. Additionally, the late Pope Francis’s establishment of the Diocese of Bentiu was a major milestone, highlighting the expansion of the Catholic presence in South Sudan. Bishop Carlassare’s journey, from missionary work to becoming the first ordinary of the Bentiu Diocese, illustrates a lifetime dedicated to spiritual leadership and service.
