Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chair of the Service Cluster, Josephine Lagu Yanga, held a meeting on Tuesday with the Chairperson of the DDR Commission, Ayuen Alier Jongoor, and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, the DDR leadership reviewed ongoing activities, highlighted key challenges, and outlined the main obstacles hindering the implementation of their mandate. They also presented their future plans, with a particular focus on the screening of soldiers at cantonment sites and strategies for reintegrating DDR personnel into civilian life.

Vice President Lagu Yanga reaffirmed her full commitment to supporting the Commission, noting that she would escalate these concerns to the relevant authorities, especially the National Transitional Committee (NTC), for further consideration and follow-up. She also praised the Commission’s vital role in implementing the peace agreement, particularly in relation to security arrangements.

As part of efforts to strengthen and develop the Commission’s work, the Vice President proposed the organization of a national DDR conference. This conference would bring together representatives from DDR commissions across the country, as well as government partners and regional and international experts, to discuss challenges and exchange experiences aimed at enhancing the performance of DDR institutions.

She affirmed her determination to support and help realize this proposed national conference and to work toward making it a reality on the ground.
