Members of the National Transitional Legislative Assembly rejected on Monday earlier this week the proposed increase in the fees for obtaining identity cards and passports by 50 percent, pointing out that ordinary citizens cannot afford the proposed fees due to the economic conditions the country is going through in general.
Members of parliament pointed out in their session that civil servants, regular forces and government organizations have not received their salaries for nearly 12 months, which makes it difficult for any citizen to get money to obtain official documents at the moment.
Among the proposed increases, the specialized committee on finance and economic planning increased the fees for regular passports for adults by 50% from $100 to $150, while the regular passport for children will be $100.
