Unity State Governor, Justice Riek Bim Top, arrived in Leer town, in the southern part of the state, to officially inaugurate the mobile court sessions aimed at bringing offenders to justice through formal legal procedures.
The Government of South Sudan has deployed judges, prosecutors, and trained investigators in various parts of the country to implement legal procedures and uphold the rule of law.
The mobile court initiative is part of a joint effort between South Sudan’s Judiciary and the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, with support from the Human Rights and Rule of Law Section of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

Crowds of citizens gathered in the streets early in the morning to welcome Governor Riek Bim. For over a decade, Leer County has lacked a functioning court to address cases related to murder, rape, and other serious and complex crimes requiring criminal investigations.
Governor Riek Bim was received by County Commissioner Stephen Tahir and members of his local government, amid great joy and appreciation from citizens who welcomed the move as a major step toward achieving justice in the region.
It is worth noting that the Government of South Sudan has launched similar mobile court programs in other parts of the country.
