Kiki Gbeho, the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Deputy Resident Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan, delivered a comprehensive briefing to ambassadors accredited to the Government of South Sudan.
Gbeho held consultations with the A3 group and the African Union in Addis Ababa, emphasizing the urgent need for a unified and sustainable regional approach to de-escalate political tensions, protect civilians, and ensure investment in essential humanitarian aid amid the worsening political crisis in South Sudan — a crisis often marked by outbreaks of armed conflict.
The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) continues to play a vital role in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the peace agreement among the signatory parties. It also works to protect civilians during armed conflicts and to provide essential humanitarian services and assistance to displaced persons and those affected by violence throughout the country.
