The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has announced that the road being constructed by Indian engineering troops stationed in Upper Nile State is nearing completed.
“Our UN peacekeepers, the Blue Helmets, are committed to supporting the people of South Sudan and facilitating their access to surrounding areas. Thanks to their joint efforts with the Government of Upper Nile State, peacekeepers are expected to complete the final three kilometers by the end of this week, despite the challenges posed by the looming rainy season.” The Head of the UNMISS Field Office, Alfred Orono Orono, stated

This vital road connects Malakal, Akoka, and Melut, covering a distance of 95 kilometers. According to the United Nations, the rehabilitation and construction process took an entire year under difficult conditions.
Alfred praised the efforts of the UN forces in completing this road, which is expected to reduce travel time from six hours to three, enable safer movement, boost trade activity, and support peacebuilding efforts in the region.
