Report: Al-Naeim Mubarak Kuol

A high-level delegation from the African Union’s “Panel of the Wise” arrived in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, today, Wednesday, to support the ongoing peace process.

The delegation, which includes His Excellency Domitien Ndayizeye, the former President of the Republic of Burundi, and Hon. Justice Effie Owuor from Kenya, will meet with government officials, members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in South Sudan, the Head of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan, the African Union Ceasefire Monitoring and Verification Mechanism, and other stakeholders.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan stated that the visit aims to build on previous efforts and strengthen the Panel’s commitment to the full implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).

The African Union had issued a statement two days ago announcing that a delegation from the Panel of the Wise would visit Juba on Wednesday to meet with government officials, opposition members, the UN, and the Ceasefire Monitoring and Verification Mechanism to discuss the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement to end the armed conflict in South Sudan.
