UN Mission in South Sudan Evaluates Capacity-Building Workshop for Security Sector Officers in Juba

In response to the increasing incidents and alarming violence against women and girls, #UNMISS organized a capacity-building workshop focused on human rights, gender-based violence, and sexual violence.

The workshop was held in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, and was attended by 65 officers, including 40 women, from the Medical Unit of the South Sudan People’s Defense Force.

The workshop aimed to promote gender equality in the security sector, which is crucial for enabling effective and accountable institutions at all levels. It also aligns with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Various topics were covered during the workshop, including the mental health challenges faced by survivors of sexual violence, the recruitment of children by armed forces, and ways to create a more gender-responsive work environment in the security sector, especially in the military.
