Vice President Meets with IGAD Special Envoy to Discuss Political Situation and Peace Agreement Implementation

Vice President and Chair of the Service Cluster, Josephine Lagu Yanga, met today with the IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan, Ambassador Ismail Wais, to discuss the current political situation and the progress of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

Ambassador Wais emphasized the need for South Sudan’s leaders to take concrete steps to de-escalate tensions and accelerate the full implementation of the peace agreement. He called on all stakeholders to prioritize peace and stability, urging every citizen to contribute to the nation-building process.

The Special Envoy also expressed hope that the leadership of South Sudan would respond to the voices of its people and work towards achieving lasting peace and development.

In response, Vice President Josephine Lagu reaffirmed the government’s firm commitment to peace and stability. She expressed appreciation for the concerns raised by the Special Envoy and confirmed that the leadership is actively working to address the current challenges, including security, governance, and economic recovery. She also emphasized the importance of national unity, reconciliation, and dialogue as fundamental pillars for sustainable peace.

Josephine Lagu called on all political actors, civil society, and citizens to remain committed to the peace process and work together towards a prosperous and stable South Sudan. She also expressed gratitude for IGAD’s ongoing support and cooperation in the country’s peace and development efforts.
