Local sources in Malakal have confirmed that General Majur Dak, who was surrounded in the Nassir military area, remains trapped in the area by the White Army.
It was also confirmed that a helicopter belonging to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan returned yesterday without evacuating him, as reported by media in Juba.
Ongoing negotiations with the White Army and the leadership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition, led by Dr. Riek Machar Teny, have stalled. According to unofficial reports, the White Army has backtracked on its promises to hand over the commander to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan. As a result, the helicopter returned to Malakal, the capital of the Upper Nile State.
