A Ulang County MP Calls for Dialogue Between Armed Youth and the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF)

James Hoth, the Member of Parliament for Ulang County, has called for a dialogue between armed youth and the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) to resolve tensions in the region.

Hoth, who is also a community leader and elder, urged political and community leaders to engage in peaceful talks and immediately stop the fighting.

The violence in Nasir and Ulang has intensified due to the government sending barges of SSPDF forces to replace those stationed in these areas.

Hoth called on the communities of Nasir and Ulang to cease the conflict and express their grievances to the government. He also urged the communities to focus on development rather than war and avoid involvement in the conflict.

The United States, Canada, France, Germany, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands have also called on the South Sudan government to deescalate tensions and the conflict in Nasir and Ulang counties. These countries expressed concern over the clashes in Nasir and the risks of increasing violence in the Upper Nile State.

The diplomatic missions believe that the leaders based in Juba from all parties, including the SPLM-IG and SPLM-IO, have the ability to deescalate the situation in a responsible and peaceful manner.
