President Calls on New Government Officials to Work for Peace, Tolerance, and Unity

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called on newly appointed government officials to work towards achieving peace, which is a top priority for the government at all levels of administration across the country, especially in the Greater Jonglei region, which has been experiencing repeated security disturbances.

The newly appointed officials took the oath of office in front of the President today during a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace. Among the officials who took the oath were Deputy Minister of Information David Yau Yau, South Sudan’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Lily Adhieu Martin, and the Director General of the Internal Security Bureau at the National Security Agency Charles Ciec Mayor.

In his address, President Kiir urged the new officials to work towards peace and unity in South Sudan. He called on leaders and residents of areas experiencing security disturbances to adopt a spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation. He said, “I ask you all to forgive one another and work for the welfare of the Greater Pibor, the Greater Jonglei, and the Republic of South Sudan.” He added, “I want you to leave from here as reconciled people.”

Information Minister Michael Makuei Lueth echoed the President’s message, stating that resolving the ongoing conflict in the Greater Jonglei region is crucial to achieving lasting peace throughout the country.

The President repeatedly calls on government officials to work diligently and in unity, urging citizens in their regions to promote tolerance and unity, and showing the government’s commitment to making South Sudan stable, prosperous, and focused on the welfare of its people.
