The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) organized an awareness event in Yambio for 100 participants, including community members and organized forces.

Major General Simon Alisolomo, Division Commander of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-In Opposition (SPLA-IO) in Western Equatoria, emphasized the transformative nature of the training. He confidently stated, “The insights we learned today are crucial for us to raise our children properly; we must implement what we have learned.”

Harriet Mtungama, the UNMISS Child Protection Officer, reiterated the mission’s commitment to promoting human and child rights.

This awareness event aims to equip community members with the knowledge on how to directly address issues of child abuse. The UNMISS mission, as part of its program, is working to promote a culture of peace and the rule of law within the community, under the slogan #PeaceBeginsWithSafety.
