Juba: Al-Naeim Mubarak Kuol
South Sudan’s Minister of Interior, Angelina Teny, stated that the police have arrested a large number of troublemakers, and the curfew imposed on Juba will remain in effect until it is confirmed that the situation has fully returned to normal and become completely stable.
In a press conference, Angelina revealed that the protests were triggered by videos documenting brutal violations against South Sudanese citizens in Wad Madani during the Sudanese army’s control of Gezira State.
Minister Teny confirmed that the situation is currently calm and stable across the country. She added that no assaults on Sudanese properties have occurred in Eastern Equatoria, Western Equatoria, Unity, Ruweng, or Pibor states.
The Minister of Interior called for unity to address any chaos or lawlessness that could lead the country into violence. Angelina noted that the events in Juba could have humanitarian and economic repercussions in the near future.
She stated that police will continue to disperse any gatherings from now on and emphasized that Sudanese residents in Juba were not responsible for the incidents in Wad Madani.
The minister also confirmed the arrest of many troublemakers and mentioned that authorities are currently assessing the damage to affected businesses. The curfew will remain in place until full stability is ensured.
