The United Nations Mission in South Sudan has handed over a new primary school to the local authorities in the Pibor Administrative Area. Rebecca, the head of women in Kavachoch, emphasized the importance of prioritizing education for children and protecting them from early marriage, noting that this facility helps achieve that goal.
The school consists of two new classrooms, a teacher’s office, and toilets, as part of the UN’s Quick Impact Projects under its peacekeeping mandate in South Sudan. The school will accommodate 330 students, and there will no longer be classes held under trees in Pibor.

Gilbert Nantscha, head of the UN office in Bor, highlighted the importance of community cooperation in achieving positive change. He said, “Together, communities and local authorities can create a safe environment for children.”

The school is expected to serve around 330 enrolled students, according to the local calendar in South Sudan, and includes 27 girls and seven dedicated teachers who will provide lessons to the students. The Kavachoch Primary School is considered a pioneering step toward educational transformation in the region

Many students in South Sudan receive their lessons under the shade of trees, and there is a major challenge due to the lack of teachers and poor educational infrastructure.
