Augustino Jadalla Wani, Governor of Central Equatoria State, urged residents of his state to remain vigilant against the pressing issues facing the region, including land grabbing, instability caused by rebel groups, economic hardships, displacement, and problems associated with livestock migration.
In his remarks ahead of the Christmas celebrations, Governor Jadalla acknowledged the relative peace the country is experiencing as it recovers from years of conflict. However, he emphasized that Central Equatoria State continues to face many challenges.
He stated, “Christians, even though Christmas will be celebrated this year in a relatively peaceful atmosphere as the nation recovers from the aftermath of the prolonged conflict, remember that Central Equatoria State still faces challenges, including communal violence, land disputes, and insecurity caused by remaining armed groups.”
The state also faces security challenges along the road from Juba to Nimule, where rebel groups are active and frequently attack passenger buses. In addition, there is the issue of land grabbing by generals within the security and military forces, which has led to violent clashes between residents and those groups attempting to seize land in the state.
