The spokesperson for the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), Gen. Lul Ruai, has called on the country’s security and military agencies to protect citizens and their properties and to treat them with respect and integrity during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Lul Ruai stated that all necessary arrangements and preparations have been completed to enhance security and protect the people of South Sudan and foreign nationals during the festive season.
He said: “In coordination with other organized forces, the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), as the leading security agency, have finalized all necessary arrangements and preparations to enhance security and protect the people of South Sudan and foreign nationals during the festive season.”
Ruai warned all forces not on duty to keep their weapons stored and move as civilians, noting that any soldier found carrying a weapon while off duty would face legal consequences.
“Directives and orders have been issued by the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) that anyone not on duty must store their weapon in the unit’s armory. Only those on duty are allowed to carry weapons. If anyone is found carrying a weapon while off duty, the weapon will be confiscated, and the individual will be arrested and charged.” He added
The SSPDF spokesperson clarified that joint security forces have been deployed across the city, including at major roundabouts, markets, public transportation hubs, and religious sites.
He noted that the joint security forces would conduct patrols and vehicle inspections, with a particular focus on hotspots known for high criminal activity, including Gumbo Sherikat, Mangaten, and Jondoru.
The SSPDF leadership urged all citizens and foreign nationals to cooperate with security forces and report any suspicious activities to enable preventive and proactive measures.
