Special Training for Community Police to Prevent Cattle Raiding

Juba: Al-Naeim Mubarak Kuol

South Sudan is witnessing tribal conflicts and disputes, some of which may stem from the desire to maintain livelihoods, social status, or traditional marriage arrangements, or conflicts related to cattle raiding between neighboring communities in certain areas.

Stopping these forms of conflict driven by regional motives requires a specialized national community police force to prevent cattle raiding operations.

A specialized unit from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, (UNPOL) organized a two-day workshop for 33 South Sudanese police officers to address the complex and multifaceted issue of cattle raiding, with a particular focus on strategies and techniques that law enforcement personnel can use to prevent such violent attacks from occurring, thus protecting the lives and properties of civilians.
