Nagero Commissioner Requests Aid for IDPs from Tambura

The commissioner of Nagero County in Western Equatoria State has requested humanitarian assistance for thousands of internally displaced people (IDPs) who fled armed conflict in the neighboring Tambura County.

The newly appointed commissioner, Henry Bangada Assaya, stated that the humanitarian situation for the IDPs from Tambura is extremely critical, as they are currently staying in schools and open areas without food, clean drinking water, or medicines.

It has been confirmed that 11,000 IDPs have arrived in Namatina area, along with 17,000 IDPs in Duma area in Nagero County.

“I am the newly appointed commissioner of Nagero County, and we are facing the issue of IDPs who fled from Tambura to Nagero County. I have no place to settle them yet.”, He said

“I have accommodated them in a school compound. The number of IDPs who have arrived in my county is large, and I am requesting urgent humanitarian support in terms of water, shelter, and food to assist them quickly.”, The commissioner added.

The commissioner also stated: “As I speak to you, I have nothing to help the IDPs, but I have received them and given them some cassava flour, which is not enough for them.”

He pointed out that the IDPs fled from intercommunal conflict in Tambura, which began in 2021 and has continued intermittently since then.

“There is no one in Tambura, as everyone fled along the route to Wau. Currently, there is a lot of violence in Tambura, while some have fled to Ezo and Yambio.”, The commissioner explained.

“My request to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs is to assist me in providing aid to the IDPs who fled from Tambura to Nagero and are in poor health. We are hearing about cholera, and I need them to provide food, shelter, water, and clothing.”, He added
