Juba Commissioner Stopped Illegal Land Allocation in Jebel Kujur

The Commissioner of Juba County in Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Ezbon Tete, has stopped the illegal land allocation process in the Jebel Kujur area.
During his visit to the area, Ezbon stated that he halted these activities after suspects were found demarcating and allocating plots of land to individuals without the knowledge of government authorities.
“We came here to witness the illegal demarcation and allocation of land. The government has sent a clear message to the people: we have a land division plan.”, He added.
“The first plan is to divide the industrial area where companies, their facilities, and warehouses will be located. The second plan is designated for public markets, and the third plan will be for residential areas.”, He continued.
Emmanuel warned that the area in question had been designated as an industrial zone since 2006 and advised those involved in these unlawful activities to stop immediately.
“As citizens, there are legal procedures for acquiring land. You must go through the local administration in the county and the State Ministry of Housing. These are the official bodies where you can obtain a land plot.”, He stated.
“You cannot simply come here and start demarcating land on your own. I am warning all of you: I do not want to see anyone returning here to demarcate land.”, He added.
Engineer Alikaya Aligo Samson, a representative of companies operating in Lokwilili, said that the land had been allocated to companies since 2006.
“We demarcated this area in 2006 when I was the Minister of Lands and Housing in Central Equatoria State. We came here today because land grabbers are illegally demarcating this area. They have even gone as far as forging documents and claiming to be local chiefs, which makes them complicit in allocating land plots to individuals.”, He explained.
Since the outbreak of the civil war in December 2013, land grabbing, involving senior government officials and army officers, has become a widespread phenomenon.
