According to the tourism ministry, the tourist industry is celebrating a significant milestone, with 15.9 million visitors registered by the end of November 2024, representing a 20% increase over the same time in 2023.
November alone showed a significant surge, with 1.3 million tourists visiting, a 31% increase from the previous year. This increase indicates Morocco’s rising popularity as a worldwide tourism destination.
Moroccan people residing abroad account for a chunk of the growth, with visits increasing by 17%. This surge brought an additional 1.1 million visits, demonstrating the deep bond between Moroccans living abroad and their home country.
Tourism accounts for around 7% of Morocco’s GDP. It is also a significant source of employment and foreign cash, making the industry critical to the country’s prosperity.
To continue drawing visitors, Morocco has increased air connectivity to important markets and is promoting lesser-known places around the country, making it more appealing to a wider variety of holidaymakers.
Morocco’s tourist plan is ambitious. The country intends to welcome 17.5 million tourists by 2026, and 26 million by 2030, when it will co-host the FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
These goals reflect Morocco’s desire to maintain its status as one of the world’s top tourism destinations.
