President Salva Kiir Directs Security and Economic Sector Reforms as Quickly as Possible

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the newly appointed Minister of Finance and Planning and his economic team to work on ensuring the swift settlement of the financial arrears owed to government employees.
The president’s directive came during the swearing-in ceremony of several new government officials, including the Governor of the Central Bank of South Sudan, Johnny Ohisa Damian, the Chief of the General Staff of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces, Dr. Paul Nang, and the Inspector General of Police, Abraham Madiwa Peter.
In his speech, President Kiir called for urgent intervention to alleviate the country’s economic crisis. He said, “It is critical that we correct the current mistakes in the economic sector in order to ease the suffering of our people.”
He also instructed the new officials to work diligently to ensure stability and economic growth in the country.


President Kiir emphasized the role of the banking sector in the stability of the national finances and economy, saying, “I expect full cooperation from all economic institutions to contribute to the recovery of our economy,” stressing the importance of collective efforts to stabilize the country’s financial situation.

Regarding the security sector, President Kiir issued a set of orders to the Chief of the General Staff and the Inspector General of Police, emphasizing the need for modernization of the armed forces and urging senior security leaders to play an active role in implementing security sector reforms.
President Kiir said, “Resources allocated to the armed forces should be used effectively, and the welfare of our men and women in the military should be prioritized.”
The President also ordered the immediate removal of multiple checkpoints across the country to facilitate the movement of goods and essential services for the well-being of citizens without any hindrances.
