The government of the Ruweng Administrative Area revealed that security forces dispersed several protesters who were calling for the removal of the Administrator Tiop Monieluak, describing the action as politically motivated.

Information Minister Simon Chol stated that the protest took place on Monday, December 9, in the town of Faring, the capital of the Ruweng Administrative Area. He confirmed that the situation returned to normal shortly after the security forces dispersed the civilians.

Politicians are accused of organizing the protest, and the Administrator has vowed to pursue and hold accountable those involved.

Chol clarified that there have been no administrative protests from communities in the Ruweng Administrative Area, as this incident represents the first protest in the region. He added, “Of course, the protest was not large in scale, and it called for the resignation of the Ruweng Administrator. However, they were dispersed by security, and the security situation in the region has stabilized. Citizens are going about their activities normally.”

The protesters claimed that a group of youth in Faring was arrested on direct orders from Administrator Tiop Monieluak due to their peaceful protests demanding his resignation. They mentioned that peaceful demonstrations are guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan.

They also shared pictures of the protesters on social media, holding banners calling for Tiop Monieluak’s departure and displaying images of the Administrator.
