The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, arrived this morning in Port Sudan, the temporary capital of the Sudanese government. He was received at Port Sudan International Airport by Sudanese Foreign Minister Dr. Ali Yusuf Ali Al-Sharif and a number of ambassadors from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Arab League issued a statement about the visit, in which its spokesperson, Jamal Rushdi, said that the visit is part of the ongoing solidarity of the Arab League during the critical period Sudan is going through.
The Secretary-General is expected to meet with the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, during his visit to Port Sudan.

Last week, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atti made the first visit of its kind since the war broke out between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in April 2023, during which he held a meeting with Al-Burhan.
Sudanese Foreign Minister Dr. Ali Yusuf said in a statement to the Sudan News Agency that the visit comes as part of the Arab League’s concern over the situation in Sudan, reaffirming its support for Sudan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as its solidarity with the Sudanese people in facing the severe violations committed by the rebellious Rapid Support Forces.
Yusuf described the visit as significant at this time, stating that it confirms the Arab League’s support for Sudan’s right to defend its land and protect its people.
