Juba: Al-Naeim Mubarak Koul
The Ministry of Finance and Planning, in cooperation with the World Bank Group and the National Bureau of Statistics in South Sudan, launched a report on the assessment of poverty and inequality during a workshop held in Juba.
In his keynote address during the launch of the report, the Minister of Finance and Planning, His Excellency Hon. Dr. Marial Dongrin Ater, described the World Bank as a trusted partner supporting South Sudan in its developmental journey.
The minister also stated that the level of extreme poverty in the country has worsened due to historical structural challenges, including ongoing conflicts that have disrupted the social and economic structures, deteriorating climate conditions, and the state’s limited capacity to effectively provide essential services to the population.

Minister Atur further instructed the technical team to “review the documents carefully, assess the effectiveness of the recommendations, and identify the best ways to implement them for the benefit of the public.”
For his part, the World Bank Director in the country, Mr. Charles Ondeland, confirmed the bank’s continued support to strengthen the capacity of statistical staff, build resilience against shocks, mitigate the effects of disasters and climate change, and support agricultural production in the country to enhance food security.
