The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Monday Samaya Kumba, met with a delegation from the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) to discuss the situation in the Abyei area>
Ambassador Monday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the agreed-upon principles that the Government of South Sudan intends to implement. He also mentioned that the government would continue to provide adequate support to UNISFA for the benefit of the citizens in the region and the international partners tasked with managing the affairs of Abyei in accordance with their mandate.
The Deputy Minister emphasized the Government of South Sudan’s readiness to work with UNISFA in assisting the communities residing in Abyei.
The Chairperson of the Joint Oversight Committee (AJOC), Deng Arop, thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for their continued support, which brings hope to the citizens of Abyei. He also expressed his appreciation to UNISFA and urged them to continue supporting the local community in the region.
Deng called on the international community to promote the interests of local companies and provide them with opportunities to invest.
The Acting Commander, Major General Robert Yaw Affram, expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support that the Government of South Sudan provides to UNISFA, particularly through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, which has enabled UNISFA to carry out its mandate in the Abyei area.
