Juba: Al-Naeim Mubarak Kuol
The First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has called on national universities, educational institutions, and research bodies to prioritize studies on the security sector and provide citizens with information and knowledge about this field.
Dr. Machar made these remarks today during the closing ceremony of the three-day security conference in Juba, on behalf of the President of the Republic, Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The security conference brought together policymakers and security mechanisms from various security organs in the country.
Representatives from regional and international organizations such as the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the African Union (AU) also participated in the conference.

Following the deliberations, the conference issued three new documents: the White Paper on Defense and Security, the Revised Defense Policy, and the Security Policy Framework.
The First Vice President urged the concerned institutions to prepare the new security documents for presentation to the National Council of Ministers and then to the Revitalized Transitional National Legislature for approval and passage into law.

Participants engaged in intensive discussions over the past three days, and Dr. Machar thanked the organizers of the conference for its success, noting that it would pave the way for building strong security institutions in the country.
The participants also expressed their appreciation to Minister Angelina Teny, Chairperson of the Strategic Defense and Security Review Board, and Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs Chol Thon Balok for organizing the conference.
The conference aims to transform South Sudan’s security sector institutions, marking a step toward democracy, good governance, and the rule of law in the young nation.
