Unity State establishes mobile courts

The Unity State Government established a mobile court in Bentiu.
The government has built the first mobile court since the conflict began in 2013. From 2018 to 2024, the UNMISS Department of Rule of Law established a number of comparable courts.
State Governor Riek Bim stated that the state’s justice system was inadequate, with some convicts awaiting trial for an extended period of time.
The Governor thanked UNMISS, particularly the Department of Rule of Law, for sparing the lives of persons arrested from various places.
“The court should constantly be present because there are those who steal cattle and kill others for no apparent reason. “We must refrain from these criminal acts,” Bim stated.
The mobile court will be in Bentiu for 21 days, dealing with murder and rape cases.
Jal Puok, Acting Speaker of Unity State Parliament, said the mobile court was helpful since local residents had reported their problems to the justices, who would begin work right away.
“My message is to the people around to come and report their cases to teams of judges of the mobile court,” he told reporters.
Rose Nyaboth, the State Gender and Child Social Welfare Minister, stated that the judges will investigate and prosecute the There have been countless rapes in the neighborhood.
She urged Bim to maintain the spirit of justice and law enforcement.
Maj Gen Gatkuoth Duop Kuich stated that the Unity State Police Commissioner verified that multiple instances had been recorded at the Bentiu IDP camp.
Kuich warned the locals not to commit crimes or support criminal organizations.
Maj Gen Alfred Eliguh Mauyiel, the Director General of Prisons, stated that they would welcome individuals sentenced to prison by the mobile court in the coming days.
“Our job is to accept those who have been punished and sentenced to prison. “We will welcome and protect them,” he stated.
