Juba: Al-Naeim Mubarak Kuol
Four people, including two civilians, were killed, and two others, who are in stable condition, were injured in a shootout last night at the residence of the former security chief, General Akol Koor, in Tongpiny, Juba, the capital of South Sudan.
According to the spokesperson for the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF), Major General Lul Ruai Koang, the two civilians who died were struck by armored personnel carriers deployed as military reinforcements during the clashes.
He explained that the incident occurred when security forces were sent to request General Akol Koor to relocate to his second residence in Jebel. The move was prompted by growing concerns over military activity around his residence in Tongpiny, which had caused panic and disruption among the local residents.

Major General Lul stated in a statement: “General Akol Koor has now relocated to his house in Jebel after negotiations led by the Chief of Staff of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces, General Santino Deng Wol.”
General Akol Koor has been allowed four personal security guards and will remain confined to his house in the Jebel neighborhood, awaiting further directives from the President of the Republic.
Investigations into the incident and the circumstances leading to the fatalities are ongoing.
