President Salva Kiir Mayardit held a meeting with his Vice President, Taban Deng Gai, to review the progress of national infrastructure projects and discuss the challenges hindering their implementation. The meeting was attended by Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs, Tut Gatluak Manime.
During the meeting, the President received a detailed report on the progress made in the infrastructure sector, particularly road projects, where key implementation obstacles were highlighted. Kiir stressed that infrastructure development is a fundamental pillar for driving economic growth, strengthening connectivity across the country, and improving service delivery to citizens.
For his part, the Vice President reviewed several strategic road projects, including the Pagak–Maiwut–Mathiang corridor and the Paloch road, noting that feasibility studies have reached advanced stages, with implementation expected to begin upon completion of technical and administrative procedures.
The meeting also addressed road projects in the Equatoria region, including Juba–Lobonok, Juba–Yei–Kaya, and Maridi roads, as part of a government plan to enhance internal connectivity within the region. In the Bahr el Ghazal region, the Vice President explained that work is ongoing on several projects being implemented by national and partner companies, with a need for further guidance on the next phases, alongside plans for new roads such as Wau–Raja and Burumadina.
In a related context, the Vice President called for the reactivation of the Agricultural Bank, emphasizing that improving its performance would expand access to financing, support agricultural production, and help ease inflationary pressures.
In response, President Kiir stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of vital projects, directing increased coordination among relevant government institutions to address existing challenges. He also underscored the importance of enhancing the efficiency of the Infrastructure Cluster to ensure it meets citizens’ needs, reaffirming the government’s commitment to development and long-term stability.
