Member of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, MP Stephen Lual Nagor, praised the stance of President Salva Kiir Mayardit for reaffirming his firm commitment to holding the general elections in December 2026. He noted that this position reflects a strong political will to advance the consolidation of the democratic process and enhance political stability in the Republic of South Sudan.
MP Stephen Lual also expressed his appreciation for the meeting held between the President and the leadership of the National Elections Commission in South Sudan, during which preparations for the upcoming elections were reviewed, including nationwide civic awareness programs and voter registration. He stated that this step demonstrates the government’s seriousness in fulfilling its constitutional obligations within the agreed-upon timeframe.
MP Lual Nagor explained that the President’s affirmation to proceed with the elections on schedule sends “a strong and clear message to the people and to the regional and international community that South Sudan is determined to complete the requirements of the transitional phase in accordance with the constitution and the spirit of the signed agreements.”
He added that the upcoming elections represent a pivotal national milestone to consolidate constitutional governance and enable citizens to exercise their democratic right to choose their leadership at the ballot box, noting that the government’s support for the work of the National Elections Commission in South Sudan embodies a practical commitment to organizing free, fair, and well-managed elections.
He also called on all political forces to support the efforts of the Elections Commission and fully cooperate with it to ensure the success of the electoral process, emphasizing that strengthening political stability requires joint national efforts and prioritizing the interests of South Sudan above any narrow considerations.
