South Sudan’s Vice President, Josephine Lagu, held a high-level meeting with Norwegian Minister of International Development, Anne Beathe Kristiansen Tvinnereim, on the sidelines of the current session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The meeting focused on the latest developments in South Sudan and ways to support the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.
During the meeting, Lagu reaffirmed the National Unity Government’s full commitment to implementing the peace agreement, describing it as a top priority for achieving political and security stability in the country.


The Vice President expressed gratitude for Norway’s role in supporting peace and development efforts in South Sudan, and called for continued humanitarian assistance, especially in light of the ongoing humanitarian challenges. She emphasized the importance of ensuring safe access for humanitarian aid and protecting humanitarian workers in the field.
Lagu also urged the international community to stand with South Sudan and to recognize the current challenges hindering the implementation of the agreement, stressing that international partnerships remain a key component in supporting the country’s transitional period.
The meeting was attended by South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as the Permanent Representative of South Sudan to the United Nations, as part of Juba’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure broad international support for the peace process.
