The First Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, received a delegation from the African Union (AU) at his office today.
The delegation, led by Adama Dieng, the AU Special Envoy on the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities, discussed the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS). Several critical issues were discussed during the meeting, including transitional justice and the Truth, Reconciliation and Healing Commission, which the President signed into law. Capacity building was also an important point of discussion. In addition, ideas were exchanged on best practices to enhance national cohesion, with the aim of strengthening unity and establishing sustainable peace within the country.
The first Vice President briefed the AU delegation on the progress made so far, and the challenges faced in the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

He explained the rationale behind the recent extension, stressing that it was aimed at addressing the remaining tasks outlined in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, including security arrangements to curb inter-communal violence, the population census, and the constitution-making process, all of which are essential for free, fair and peaceful elections scheduled for December 2026.
After the meeting, Adama spoke to the media, highlighting that the discussion focused on addressing issues such as corruption, conflict and transitional justice to help the country achieve sustainable peace.
The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Joram Mukama Biswaro, the African Union Special Representative for South Sudan and Head of the African Union Liaison Office.
