President Kiir Directs New Ministers to Reform Higher Education and Improve Cargo Handling to Ease Living Costs

President of South Sudan, General Salva Kiir Mayardit, has directed the newly sworn-in ministers on Friday to make substantial changes in key sectors that directly impact citizens’ lives, primarily higher education and transportation.

During the swearing-in ceremony at the presidential palace, President Kiir tasked the newly appointed Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Mr. Madut Biar Yel, with implementing innovative reforms aimed at revitalizing the country’s higher education system. He stressed the importance of improving the quality of education and enhancing the capabilities of academic institutions to meet the aspirations of the youth in South Sudan.

In the transportation sector, President Kiir urged the newly appointed Minister of Transport, Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, to expedite the development of South Sudan’s dry port in Naivasha, Kenya. He highlighted that improving cargo handling and logistics systems is crucial to reducing the cost of essential goods and achieving economic stability.

Both ministers expressed their full commitment to implementing the leadership’s directives and improving the performance of their ministries, in order to serve the citizens’ interests and drive the country’s development forward.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) and Former Detainees (FDs), who reaffirmed their full commitment to the peace agreement and expressed their support for the ongoing efforts toward stability and national unity.
