Lam Both, former Secretary-General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), has denied widespread rumors alleging his arrest, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.
In a social media post published on Friday, Both addressed the speculation directly, writing: “It’s good to learn when rival parties are against you. I am currently at my residence,” referring to what he called smear campaigns led by political opponents.
Unverified reports had circulated throughout the week on various social media platforms, claiming that Both had been detained—none of which were attributed to official sources. Observers have since described the rumors as part of a broader disinformation effort.
“To anyone who needs confirmation: I have not been arrested. This is an obvious lie spread by individuals seeking political propaganda,” Both concluded in his statement.
His denial comes amid a tense and increasingly competitive political climate in South Sudan, with growing concern over the spread of misinformation and politically charged rumors online.
